THE COOKING CHAMPS BOOK
Sneak Peek
“Actions to prevent childhood obesity need to be taken in multiple settings and incorporate a variety of approaches and involve a wide range of stakeholders. Sustained interventions are likely to be required at several levels - at an individual level, in schools and community settings to affect behavioural change.” *
“…interventions for childhood obesity prevention need to be part of existing plans and programs that aim to improve diets and physical activity.”*
Mission
To promote an understanding of nutrition and the positive and negativeaspects of the modern day food cycle in order to eliminate childhood obesity and malnutrition.
To introduce this knowledge during the early years when a child is most malleable and change is more readily internalized and sustained.
To develop healthy confident cooks who understand the importance of hygiene and nutrition and can relish the joy of cooking and sharing a meal with friends and family.
Values
- Combine education, knowledge building and fun.

Why?
Childhood obesity is rising rapidly worldwide
• According to World Health Organization and UNICEF, nearly 1 in 10 children aged 5–19 globally now live with obesity, with rates having almost tripled since 1990, making it one of the fastest-growing public health challenges of our time.
Combat ignorance
• To combat childhood ignorance regarding hygiene, nutrition, cooking skills and the food cycle.
Need for behavioral change
• Introducing The Cooking Champs program into elementary school is most likely to affect behavioral change.
Cost effective solution
• Investment in this type of preventative measure is the most cost effective approach but yields the greatest social and economic long term benefits.
